Foundation Fellowships & Medallion

The Archbishop Carter Foundation Fellowships and Medallion is a non-profit educational and charitable organization. It was formally established under the auspices of the Society of Jesus in Jamaica on July 31, 2003, the Feast of St. Ignatius, Founder of the Jesuit Order and the 84th birthday of Archbishop Samuel E. Carter, S.J. With an initial endowment from a close friend of Archbishop Carter, The Foundation named in his honor is designed to ensure that the life and good works of this prophet of God will forever be etched in the minds and hearts of us as a people and as a nation. To that effect, the Foundation, through its Board of Trustees, may award on an annual basis, no more than two graduate fellowships tenable at the University of the West Indies, the University of Technology, and/or any other fully accredited institution of higher education in the English Speaking Caribbean in fields of studies the Board of Trustees consider appropriate. Applicants for these awards must meet a set of criteria that is rooted in the core values that permeated the life of Archbishop Carter. They must be men and women of faith with a commitment to lead, to teach, to heal, to touch, and to reconcile men, women and communities torn apart by selfishness and sin.

The primary source of income of the Foundation is the interest on the initial endowment and contributions you can make to build a much larger endowment base to support the works of the Foundation. Please consider making a contribution to the Archbishop Carter Foundation Fellowships. When you do, you will be playing a helpful role in ensuring that Archbishop Carter, the man he was to all of us, his good works, and the example he left us will continue to live forever in the minds and hearts of of us all.
